VU partners with IGNITE to train 1 Million people - PM inaugurates "DigiSkills"

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbassi inaugurated DigiSkills Training Program, aimed at training one million youth through online modules in Islamabad on Thursday. Addressing the ceremony, the Prime Minister said the present government has delivered in many fields by building motorways, ports, airports and establishing power plants but the advancement in the information technology sector is most important contribution in the last five years.
The Prime Minister said that Digiskills program will equip the youth to get online jobs and earn money through a non-traditional way. He said that he has full faith in the youth of the country and expressed the confidence that the girls will, in future, excel in e-commerce.
He said the government on its part is committed to ensure availability of broadband in every inch of the country and the Prime Minister appreciated Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication (MoITT) and Virtual University of Pakistan (VU) for their role in the development of youth through ICT and Digital services.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications Ms. Anusha Rehman said the DigiSkills program is an important endeavor of the Ministry that will create online employment opportunities to enable youth to earn 200 to 300 dollars per month. She said with the help of this program youth from across the country will be providing their services to the entire world. One million youth of Pakistan could get benefits from the program.
She said Pakistan is emerging as an IT-leader in the world and government is committed to enlighten the future of our young generation with the use of latest technology.
Earlier, while welcoming the guests, Dr. Naveed A Malik, Rector VU apprised the audience about the University and its capabilities to handle mega projects such as “DigiSkills”.
While addressing the audience, Mr. Yusuf Hussain, CEO, IGNITE acknowledged the capacity and potential of Virtual University of Pakistan to undertake such mega project. He also congratulated for VU for winning the project through a competitive bidding and coming up on top against 6 bidders that also included foreign entities. He further talked about Artificial Intelligence that will be a very important part of such project in future.
Later, an agreement signing took place at the Prime Minister Secretariat in the presence of Prime Minister Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. Dr. Naveed A. Malik, Rector Virtual University of Pakistan and Mr. Yusuf Hussain, CEO · Ignite - National Technology Fund signed the MoU for DigiSkills Training Program.

SPECIAL QUOTA SCHOLARSHIPS - GRADUATION LEVEL - 2017 

Virtual University is accepting applications of VU students for PEEF Special Quota Scholarships based in Punjab
Special Quota Scholarships by PEEF:
The Punjab Education Endowment Fund (PEEF) has allocated Special Quota Scholarships for students who have passed Intermediate examination held by Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) or Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) in 2017.
PEEF has allocated 20% of its total scholarships to Special Quota (SQ) category. The Special Quota Scholarships are awarded under five categories.
  1. Students must fall in any of one of the category
    1. Orphans
    2. Children of government servants in BPS 1 - 4 (children of both serving and retired govt. servants are eligible)
    3. Special Children
    4. Children from minorities
    5. Children of Civilians Martyred in Terrorist Attacks
  2. Should have at least 60% marks in Intermediate Examination conducted by Board of Intermediate and secondary Education (BISE) or Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), Islamabad
  3. Passed the above mentioned examination from government institutions, private registered institutions or as a private candidate  
    1. Only students of Federal Government and Private Institutions situatied within gerographical bourndries of Punjab are eligible for consideration of PEEF scholarship
  4. Secured admission in a regular educational institution as a full time student in the current academic year (2017-18)
  5. Declared monthly family income is less than or equal to Rs. 15,000/ per month
    1. Children of Civilians Martyred in Terrorist Attachks and Children of Govt. Employees of BPS 1-4 are exempted from income limit
  6. Not availing any other educational scholarshio during the academic year 2017

Students from Balochistan visited Virtual University

A delegation from Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) visited Virtual University of Pakistan. The delegation comprised over 37 students and faculty members including Mr. Imran Ali Sani-Assistant Professor, Mr. Nisar Ahmed-Lecturer, Ms. Nida Tabassum-Lecturer from Faculty of Life Sciences of BUITEMS.
The purpose of the visit was to learn about VU’s unique mode of education and state of the art laboratories for life sciences students. The delegation was hosted by Dr. Masroor Elahi Babar, Dean Faculty of Science and Technology. He briefed them about all offered programmes, research initiatives and future plans of the university followed by a detailed question-answer session. The delegation also toured Davis Road campus to observe practical sessions of Zoology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Genetics. Earlier, they visited VUTV network and admired the professionalism of the VUTV staff.
The delegates appreciated VU’s infrastructure and facilities provided to its students and faculty to ensure quality teaching, learning and research. They also applauded Virtual University for providing an excellent opportunity to the life science professionals to excel in their fields by continuing their education through distance learning.
